| The Spirit of the West is what Tress Pearce tries to evoke in her jewelry. Using only natural materials: turquoise, silver and semi-precious stones, Tress designs jewelry for the little bit of cowgirl in all women, whether we ride the range or not. “It all started with one Navajo necklace that I bought when I was fifteen. I have loved western inspired jewelry ever since,” Tress explains. Her jewelry line, Oakey Girl, is named after her American Quarter Horse, Oakey. “By using all natural stones and sterling silver in my jewelry, I hope to create jewelry that has an earthy, natural feel to it. I want my pieces to be timeless, not trendy. I still have that Navajo necklace I bought when I was a teenager and I am still wearing it more than thirty years later. It is my goal that my jewelry will also be enjoyed for a lifetime.” Tress is inspired by Native American jewelry artists and uses their classic designs as a springboard for her jewelry. Her turquoise pieces have a Native American feel to them and she pays close attention to color and texture combinations to create unique and original designs. Tress is currently taking silversmithing classes to further enhance her pieces. |
