Chris Navratil became a "mid-life" artist several years ago when after turning 50 she knew that she wanted and needed to try being artistically creative, something she had never had time to pursue. Her first real exposure to making pottery was in September 2001 and she was instantly hooked! Chris found that she was experiencing a serious passion for clay and using her hands and heart to create pottery. She feels that the clay medium is literally unlimited and that her enthusiasm will stay with her for life! Chris's work is influenced by memories of earlier travels in several Asian countries, by the colors of nature's beauty and by an incredibly blessed life. Each piece of pottery is unique, individually created, wheel-thrown, and made of either stoneware clay or porcelain. It is then bisque-fired, glazed (she makes most of her own glazes), and fired again at high temperatures. The finished pottery is microwave safe and oven safe if preheated with the oven. |
