Six years ago, Marilyn began to combine her oil painting skills with her love of clay to produce colorful, functional, food-safe pottery. She works with stoneware and porcelain clays, throwing the clay into various shaped bowls often using underglazes to paint the flowers she sees around her. Marilyn loves experimenting with glazes that react with each other, flowing over the clay as they heat up in her kiln. It is exciting to open up the kiln after each firing and see what surprises await her. Marilyn's sculptures include figures, animals, and masks as well as expressive dragons. She is an active member of the Placerville Arts Association and continues to study with local artists and attend workshops in El Dorado and Mendocino Counties. Marilyn's work is done in their Hillside Oak Studio, which she shares with her photographer husband, Donald Jassowski. Her ceramics are on display at Gold Country Artists Gallery in downtown Placerville. |
