Loretta North is an award-winning artist who paints in a realistic style using watercolor as her medium. Her subjects are mostly domestic and wild animals, and flowers. She usually does a painting with an animal in it someplace, even if it's camouflaged. Although she was born and raised in the Sacramento area in California, her father had a career in the Air Force, so she traveled extensively and even spent three years in Tripoli, North Africa. As a senior in high school she won "popular choice" at an art show in Lompoc, California with an etching of a mare and two foals. That was when she decided to go on to college and major in art. In college she had two excellent watercolor teachers and received a good background in drawing and technique. She received a B. A. in Fine Arts in from Sacramento State University, then took time out from her art to raise a family and develop a business, but kept her passion for animals alive during this time by training, showing, and raising horses. In 1988 she became serious about painting again and has shown nationally and has taken many awards at local shows including four Best Of Shows. She has done many one-woman shows including a showing at the World Trade Club in San Francisco. She had a painting in the Oakland Museum and had one of her paintings published in Northlight's book, "The Best of Flower Paintings 1". Her paintings are owned by private and corporate collectors throughout the U.s., Canada, and Germany. Her work has been collected by the actor, Alan Alda, and she is a signature member of the Society of Western Artists.. |
