An accomplished painter in oils, pastel and watercolors, Blanche Kawahara paints almost any subject including portraits. After discovering soft pastels soon after moving to this area, pastels became her favorite media. Blanche loves to find local scenes for plein air style when the weather permits, but also works in her studio from setups or photographs she has taken. The roses and tall bearded irises in her garden provide many painting sources.

Blanche has won many awards at local and international shows. She has exhibited at the Denver Museum and has works in the UC Davis Collection. She is a signature member of the Society of Western Artists (SWA) and the Sierra Pastel Society (SPS). She is also a member of the Placerville Arts Association and the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Blanche also gives classes in pastel and wire-wrapped jewelry.
