Don’s photographic prints reflect his interest in nature and its beauty, which he captures with both every-day and unique subjects. His goal is to display in his prints the look and feel of the original scene. His background is in engineering, where he worked for 40 years in the rocket propulsion industry. As a teenager growing up in Southern California, he began processing and printing his own color film. Don moved to the Sacramento area in 1960, and to Placerville in 1975. He took up digital photography in 2001; it permits concentrating on the image rather than the process. He photographs, prints, mats and frames the photos himself in order to have artistic and technical control over the results. He uses an Epson 4000 printer, with archival Ultrachrome inks, museum-grade mats, and archival foam core mounts. Don has his photography studio at the Hillside Oak Gallery, which he shares with his potter/painter wife Marilyn Jassowski. His photography is on display at Gold Country Artists Gallery in downtown Placerville. |
