Karen Caswell began taking weekly fly tying classes at Off the Hook Fly Shop in Placerville. After attending the first fly-tying class, she was "hooked"! She has taken numerous classes from a variety of instructors and tied a wide variety of fishing flies. She has also taken private lessons from Master Fly Tier, Robert Williams. Karen's love for nature combined with her eye for color is apparent in the original Atlantic Salmon Fly patterns. The brilliant colors, textures and combination of materials make each piece unique. Feathers from birds all over the world are combined and layered to create the look she is trying to achieve. Some of the feathers used are macaw, peacock, golden pheasant, Lady Amherst, lovebird, junglecock, guinea and kingfisher. Karen feels this medium combines all the other creative avenues she has explored in her life. Each original creation expresses the beauty available in nature for the tying. All the following flies are framed in 8x10 frames with the inside area being roughly 3" x 4.5". |
