The 'Statement' Valerie wishes to make with her art work is that 'LIFE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL'. " There is beauty all around us; in nature, in people and their cultures, in music and love. When I paint, the combination of color and the unpredictable nature of watercolor puts 'a song in my heart' and I hope that the viewer will experience that feeling also."

Valerie has received numerous awards in juried shows and has been honored with several one woman shows. She is a signature member of the Society of Western Artists.

Asian cultures have always been of great interest to Valerie and her husband Pete. They have traveled in various Asian countries and that influence is reflected in their home and garden. They participate annually in Studio Tours and Garden Tours. Many of Valerie's paintings have a touch of chinoisserie. A recent trip to Europe has opened new horizons.
