My first ventures into the world of photography were as a young teenager in the 1950's. With my Kodak kit, some developer, stop bath and fixer, I developed and printed my own images. The chemical caused "etchings" in the countertop tile in the bathroom that I used as a dark room and are probably still there today.

Until the 1980's, I was a "snapshot" photographer of the usual snapshot things—family, friends, pets, flowers, scenics and vacations. In the mid 1980's, I took a big leap into photography when I started using the Pentax 645, a manual-focus, single-lens reflex medium-format film camera. I ended up using the Pentax 35mm format manual and auto-focus SLRs and LOTS of lenses.

Pentax was the last of the major camera makers to introduce a digital SLR. For the first few years that Pentax did not have a digital SLR, I was content to continue to consider digital photography a form of heresy. I may be one of the first five or ten people in the U.S. to have gotten the Pentax *istD, Pentax's first digital SLR and it was very well worth the wait.

I am a "generalist" photographer. I especially enjoy shooting wildlife, scenics, flowers and old farm yard buildings and equipment. I also make digital infrared images with my IR-converted digital SLR cameras.
